  • North Main Parklet ($350,000): Transform the underutilized downtown lot into a signature community gathering space with an artistic fountain, shade structure, seating, landscaping, and a water bottle filling station. 

  • South Main Parklet ($42,000): Enhance the vacant lot south of the railroad tracks with landscaping, a walking path, benches, bike racks, and other amenities to create a welcoming neighborhood green space. 

  • Frawley Park ($60,000): Replace outdated playground equipment with new train-themed structures, add benches, bike racks, and resurfacing to create a safe, modern, and engaging play space for families.

  • Herman Park ($61,000): Build an ADA-accessible fishing pier and connecting path along Big Sister Creek, providing safe and inclusive access to one of the Village’s most popular outdoor recreation areas. 

  • Centennial Park ($330,000): Upgrade this central community hub with a new ADA-accessible restroom, improved utilities, pathways, lighting, landscaping, and restoration of the historic gazebo.

Main Street Mobility Hub: Linking Community, Commerce, and Sustainability

The Village proposes to transform the Main Street municipal parking lot into a Mobility Hub featuring EV charging stations, bike and scooter rentals, and a Park & Ride area, while also resurfacing and upgrading the lot with ADA access, lighting, and signage to create a safe, sustainable, and accessible gateway to downtown.

Implement Streetscape Improvements on Main Street 

PROJECT COST: $937,000

The Village will upgrade 2,500 linear feet of sidewalks and streetscape in its downtown by replacing deteriorated sidewalks with ADA-compliant paths, adding decorative lighting, street trees, bike infrastructure, and pedestrian amenities to create a safer, more attractive, and welcoming environment that supports community vitality and local businesses.

Railroad Quiet Zone: Preserving and Enhancing Quality of Life for Village Residents

The Village proposes to establish a Railroad Quiet Zone at the Main Street–Commercial Street rail crossing by installing safety and roadway improvements that meet FRA and NYSDOT standards, reducing train horn noise while enhancing safety, livability, and the downtown business environment.

Upgrade the Angola Fire Hall at 41 Commercial Street for Improved Efficiency and Accessibility 

PROJECT COST: $464,000
NYF FUNDS REQUESTED: $464,000 (100% NYF Request)

The Village will modernize the Fire Hall by repairing and replacing exterior siding and windows, installing new garage door windows, repainting and updating interior finishes, upgrading restrooms, replacing epoxy flooring in the engine bay, and adding a stairlift for ADA access—ensuring this decades-old facility, last significantly renovated in 1996, continues to safely and effectively support emergency services.

Reimagine the former 1919 Fire Dept. into a Restaurant and Banquet Hall 

PROJECT COST: $389,000

The 3,300-square-foot former firehouse will be transformed into a modern two-story restaurant and banquet hall through a full interior buildout—including kitchen, bathrooms, mechanical systems, and finishes—along with shaded outdoor seating, fire pits, and other exterior enhancements to create a vibrant new downtown destination.

Update 11-15 N Main into a Modern, Attractive Mixed- Use Building

This project will renovate three upper-floor apartments totaling 2,700 square feet while restoring the building’s exterior through façade upgrades and extensive brick repair, creating a more modern, attractive, and functional mixed-use property in downtown Angola.

This project will transform a vacant lot into four new two-story, three-bedroom townhomes styled apartments with individual driveways and garages, adding 7,500 square feet of modern housing that supports affordability and encourages new residents to settle in Angola.

This project will construct an 8,000–10,000 sq. ft. two-story mixed-use building on Main Street with first-floor retail, dining, office, or childcare space and four second-floor apartments, blending historic-inspired design with modern amenities to strengthen downtown vibrancy, support small businesses, and expand housing options.

This project will complete the transformation of 29 Commercial Street by fully outfitting a first-floor restaurant with kitchen, dining areas, and restrooms, while adding solar panels, an outdoor covered patio, accessible ramp, and social spaces with fire pits—revitalizing a long-vacant historic building into a vibrant downtown destination.

Continue Restoration of the Historic Angola Theatre 

PROJECT COST: $773,000

This project will complete Phase II renovations of the Angola Theatre by upgrading electrical and plumbing systems, renovating restrooms, repairing the building exterior, and restoring historic plaster, woodwork, flooring, and the stage. Additional improvements will include new stage equipment, fire-retardant curtains, enhanced ADA accessibility, balcony railings, security cameras, and a modern sound system, along with concession upgrades and installation of a commercial generator to strengthen its role as both a cultural venue and community hub.

Reinvent the Former Weidmer Hotel into an Authentic Local Tavern and Event Space

This project will complete the ongoing transformation of the historic Weidmer Hotel into The Domestic by building out a 1,000 sq ft first-floor tavern with a full-service bar and commercial kitchen, along with a 1,000 sq ft second-floor event space for parties, business meetings, and community gatherings—revitalizing a long-vacant building into a unique local destination.

Exterior Improvements and Interior Upgrades to Azalia’s Juicery 

PROJECT COST: $1,100,000

This project will renovate Azalia’s Juicery by expanding dining space, relocating production to the first floor, upgrading electrical and HVAC systems, and making basement waterproofing improvements, while also enhancing the exterior with new signage, a larger rear patio with seating and awning, and parking lot repairs to support community use, such as the Peaceful Soul Farmers Market.

Renovation of the Angola Village Commons at 14 N Main Street 

PROJECT COST: $461,000

This project will reactivate the vacant 8,500 sq ft Angola Village Commons by installing a new insulated roof system, replacing windows and doors, and preparing the building for a long-term commercial tenant, while preserving a large conference room as shared community space to support downtown vibrancy and collaboration.

Renovate the Southtowns CAO for Continued Community Programming  

PROJECT COST: $593,000
NYF FUNDS REQUESTED: $593,000 (100% NYF Request)

This project will modernize the 8,700 sq ft CAO facility by rehabilitating the kitchen with new equipment and a fire suppression hood to support their culinary program, creating a new Tech Room for youth programming, and completing upgrades including new flooring, HVAC, lighting, security systems, ADA entries, signage, awning, and parking lot repairs—ensuring a safe, innovative, and welcoming space that expands opportunities for Angola residents.

Branding & Marketing

Establish a Public Art Trail & Branding Strategy Promoting Angola as a Cultural Destination  

PROJECT COST: $265,000
NYF FUNDS REQUESTED: $265,000 (100% NYF Request)

This project will develop a unified brand and marketing strategy for the Village, including a logo, guidelines, and promotional materials; install a cohesive system of signage, wayfinding, and a visitor kiosk to guide people to destinations throughout the Village; and launch a public art trail of murals and sculptures by local artists that celebrate Angola’s heritage and identity—together creating a vibrant sense of place that attracts visitors and supports downtown businesses.

Small Project Fund

Establish the Angola Small Project Fund  

PROJECT COST: $800,000
NYF FUNDS REQUESTED: $600,000 (75% NYF Request)

The Village of Angola will support a locally administered Small Project Fund to support downtown revitalization through façade improvements, building renovations, business assistance, and public art for commercial and mixed-use properties within the NY Forward boundary. Modeled on the New York Main Street Program, the fund will leverage a required match from property owners, cover soft costs such as design and environmental reviews, and prioritize projects identified during the NY Forward planning process—providing a flexible, high-demand tool that ensures smaller-scale investments contribute to downtown’s vitality and visual appeal.
